All in One Women
- A community for Moms in Science -
As Moms in Science ...
... We are “all in one”:
Woman, Mom, Scientist, Partner,
House- and Peace- and Everything- keeper.
... We are "all in" and devoted and give our all for it all.
But we can also AllOW ourselves to ...
... set boundaries and say "no".
... put our own well-being first.
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold,
you gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough,
you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm,
you gotta stay together
- Des’ree –
Remember, listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds […]
All I know, love will save the day!

Welcome to our website - we are glad you're here!
Do these lyrics sound familiar to you? Chances are that if you are in science, STEMM and/or especially academia, that you struggle with juggling all the balls and meeting all these inner and outer expectations. That you feel like so much needs to be done, and so much has to be accomplished, that by the end of the day you fall into your bed, tired and exhausted, and wonder what you have done for yourself that day. Chances are also that, if you are part of this “club”, you might be a perfectionist and - even more likely - a high achiever. You gotta stay competitive, you gotta keep up with your non-parent aka more productive counterparts – especially if you are still in the running for THAT job.
Work as if you don’t have children,
Parent as if you’re not working.
- “Impossible Parenting” (Olivia Scoobie) –
You put everything and everyone else first and put your own needs (and therefore well-being!) off to “the next day” – only, that this “next day” rarely comes. And if you do dare to take some time for yourself, you feel guilty (yes, mom guilt is a thing!!!!). Plus, there is this constant nagging voice in your head that you are egoistic, not deserving, and not capable of having it all.
Is this you? Then please know that you’re NOT ALONE. Especially in a grant-financed field as ours everything is about hustle, getting sh** done, being evaluated by how much we deliver in the shortest amount of time possible. If we are not careful, however, neglecting our creative side (or “flow”) will lead to resentment, and more drastically, burn out.
This does not need to be the case! Know that you don’t have to be / feel like a victim of your circumstances. You can take back your power and get into the drivers’ seat of your own happiness and a fulfilled life, without resentment or wondering where that next bit of necessary energy comes from. We’ve been there – and got out of it by learning some hacks and techniques that we’d love to share with you, so that you don’t have to re-invent the wheel.
Sounds good? Give us a shout!
